50 YEARS (1960-2010) OF CARING SERVICE FOR THE NATION

This year, VIVEKANANDA YUBA SAMITY (VYS) are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the organisation (Golden Jubilee Year).

Amidst the then scenario, to sustain the cultural hegemony of Vivekanandanagar, a group of ethically charged young lads (very few are still alive and the members of the organisation) felt the need to have a common working platform, through which they can realize their vision towards this society. As a first leap towards this great march, the idea to have an association was first floated and formally named as PODRAH VIVEKANANDANAGAR JUBA SAMITY(PATHAGAR). Since 1998, it is well-known to the district of Howrah in West Bengal as VIVEKANANDA YUBA SAMITY.

During the days of its inception, the group absorbed the interests of its members and the people of Vivekanandanagar and latter expanded its horizons in other spheres of activities too in the district of Howrah. Subsequently, while on the journey, as the members are developing themselves into good personality, new people joined the organisation with innovative ideas and as the organisation is growing, we sensed that we got the opportunity and possessed the necessary resources to address various social needs of people. As a first attempt towards that, group of members identified the route causes of all the social disorders and hence with a view to impart special focus on these basic areas, organisation sought to channelise the futuristic activities into three wings – Cultural/Games Programme, Charitable Programme and Developmental Programme.

While this historic passage marked struggling chapter, it also marked the extraordinary efforts of cultural survival that has touched the hearts and lives of people Vivekanandanagar and its surrounding areas.

Now, it is one of very few in West Bengal registered under Societies Registration Act of Govt. of West Bengal, Income Tax Act and FCRA Act of Govt. of India

From learning from all the mistakes we made to sharing our learning with others. The conviction and dedication of VYS has taken us to newer heights. We are committed to continue playing a meaningful small role in the development of this great nation. We are aware that our efforts can only be termed a drop in the ocean.

Over a span of 50 years, VYS are viewed as enablers, catalysts, partners.

During the long journey, we gratefully acknowledge all the supports and services extended by the dedicated members, volunteers, overseas well-wishers, institutions, administrative deptts., beneficiaries and all other local people who help us in our mission.
